Hi Julia,

We have a fair bit in common! I work down the road from you at Northern Beaches Christian School. I teach languages (French)... mostly in an online mode nowadays. Also, I have a keen interest in virtual worlds. I've been using Second Life with my Year 8s very recently for French. It's early days, but the technology seems to lend itself very well to language teaching. In fact, web stuff suits languages well in general, doesn't it? Are you on Twitter? I am @Steve_Collis. If you're not on Twitter, get on it because you'll find a stack of people keen to hear about what you're doing! It's a great network for spreading ideas!

Thanks Ming! I think the new online learning platform QUEST ATLANTIS which I am currently doing a workshop for could interest you - it's designed to encite 9-12 yr olds to enjoy learning. Read my blogs about it or let's have a chat when we meet next.

Hey TE Wilson. Mich and I have decided to do the immersion/assignment on WebQuests, so not sure how much time I will have besides that to play with LAMS in the end....funnyli enough though, the LOTE team at St Andrews asked me the other dau if I could think of a way in which students could exchange thoughts and work on an interactive platform and I mentioned it to them. See you later!

Salut Marian. Yes you're right, there is a 5 day cut-off point for you the Miro downloads - but you can download the same clip as many times as you want. So with due diligence, this should lessen your chances of a techinical hiccup for sure. My lesson worked really well, albeit I will bring better speakers next time -being an audiophile, the laptop speakers didn't cut it to my lilking!
J'espere que tu t'amuses bien en France! Bonne chance!

[...] Julia’s blog titled “Miro le miracle” has been very helpful. Like many, I had the nightmare of having an Internet connection drop right in the middle of a presentation that required Internet access! And it is brilliant to final have an alternative that actually works. Miro is a software program that allows downloads that can be used without access to the Internet. But there is a catch (as usual) which is the downloads will be available for a couple of days only, so it’s important to keep this in mind. Apart from that, I second Julia’s opinion, Miro is a miracle! [...]
